Boundaries. Is there such a thing? As we’re building our businesses, creating our personal brands, and sharing the good, bad, and *real* moments on social media, where is the line between our public and private lives anymore?

We scrapped the interview questions for an honest conversation with our guest today, Kate Arends. She created the lifestyle brand Wit & Delight and what started as a personal project to get to know herself became a resource for her 3.3 million followers to feel less alone in the ups and downs of their journey through life.

She shares food, design, and travel, and publishes deeply personal essays to explore her journey through divorce, mental illness, and an undiagnosed learning disability.

Through it all, Kate expertly crafted a deeply personal brand with a focus on her passions. I ask her about the whole process, how she creates boundaries while maintaining a brand that is so personal, and what she would do if she started over today.

A $300 Craigslist camera launched my photography career and turned into all of this. Stop me if you’ve heard this one… I’ve told it a million times because it’s a reminder of how I got this whole thing going.

When I speak to entrepreneurs, many aren’t sure they want to be doing what they are currently doing ten years from now. Wedding photography wasn’t something I could see myself doing 10, 20 years down the road. But I made a powerful pivot and what came next was my dream business.

In this episode I get into the HOW of my pivot and hopefully inspire you to start thinking about what’s next for you. You don’t have to back yourself into a corner, I want you to already be thinking forward about the next step so that when your passion fades, you’ve got a powerful pivot ready to propel you forward without sacrificing profits.

I dare you to post a video to your Instagram Stories right now. Show up, wherever and however you are, and talk to your audience. Is your heart nervously racing at the thought? I’m with you… Video is scary! We might feel comfortable posting a selfie after some editing and applying our favorite filters and presets but video? So much more difficult to SHOW UP in that way.

But video is important. We’re getting clear signs every day that if we’re not using video for our businesses, we better start. Today’s guest, Sunny Lenarduzzi has nearly a decade of experience in creating thriving brand strategies using social media and video marketing. When I wanted to dig deeper into the struggle of feeling comfortable on camera (for selfish reasons, really, I could use some help in this area) I knew Sunny would be the best guest to offer actionable tips to make us ALL want to show up on video for our businesses.

Does it feel corny to say Lights, Camera, Action? I already said it anyway… So here we go! We even have a challenge for you! You in?

There’s so much information out there, isn’t there? You’re constantly feeling like a chicken with your head cut off and wondering if anything you’re doing is RIGHT. Sound familiar? If you’re feeling that way right now, I want you to take a deep breath, pat yourself on the back, and remind yourself that doing ANYTHING is better than doing nothing.

This episode is dedicated to the top 5 mistakes I see entrepreneurs making right now (and hey, they are mistakes I find myself making too, so I’m not guiltless!) Let me walk you through the 5 biggies and give you solutions to stop making these silly mistakes with your time, your money, your words, and your beliefs. It’s time for you to get to work and I want you to do it with confidence that you’re not messing up… Because you, my friend, are anything but a mess up!

Have 90 minutes of time today to devote to your dreams? What if one tiny act of kindness could change a life?

Today’s guest, Ashley Reale, built her entire business on that question, and she launched it with just 90 minutes a day as a stay at home mom with two kids under 4 years old.

You will love Ashley’s story of turning her hobby into a profitable endeavor (with limited spare time!) and how she continues to cultivate a passionate social media community around her products to keep her business growing. Consider this episode an audio love note.

Oh Instagram, the app we are all trying to maneuver with grace and ease but behind the scenes we’re pulling out our hair, spending way too much time Googling things, and agonizing behind every image and caption -- and don’t even get me started about things like hashtags and IG stories, am I right?

As someone who has educated thousands of people on how to use the app better, I wanted to take a little time to tell ya the 3 trends that NEED to stop -- like yesterday -- because they are hurting you and not helping you on the platform. This isn’t an episode telling you to do MORE. Instead, it’s shedding a light on some frightening trends that are robbing you seeing results on Instagram. Are you ready? Let’s talk about the 3 things you need to stop doing on Instagram.

The customer is always right. Sure, you know that, but as an artist how do you balance your own creativity AND give your clients exactly what they want? And what happens when “following your bliss” isn’t actually paying the bills?

This guest found the perfect balance of her own creativity and a client-centered strategy to really give the people what they want AND grow her business. Olivia Herrick is MY graphic designer, working on all things Jenna Kutcher, and she’s the artist behind the new Goal Digger branding that we launched at the beginning of 2019. Olivia calls herself a chronic creator, and today she’s sharing how she creates value for clients, the one thing she does EVERY morning, and how educating your clients can make you BOTH happier.

Hiring a team is a big step for a small business. I always get questions like: How do I know when I need to hire someone? Can I really afford to hire someone? And how do I go about finding the perfect team member who will help me do better and make more?

Today’s guest, Joy Cho of Oh Joy! is an expert in hiring, managing, keeping, and leveraging a team to grow her business. She is holding nothing back and sharing her actionable tips and lessons learned with YOU. You might want to take notes on this one… it’s basically a bootcamp! Decisions, decisions. Are you good at making them or do decisions fill you with fear and doubt?

I haven’t always been super decisive, in fact, in the past I would’ve categorized myself as a wishy-washy people pleaser. Can you relate with that? You want to make everyone happy so you let others make decisions for you, like where to eat for dinner or what movie to watch. Now Drew would probably argue that I’m a little TOO decisive, but I know what I want and now I don’t really waiver or question my decision.

I want to walk you through how I became a better decision maker, the things I ask myself when making big decisions, and how you can implement a few simple steps to become better at making decisions and ditch the doubt that sometimes comes with them. This one skill has saved me hours of deliberation and seasons of questioning, and it’s given me the clarity to say my best YESes!

Let me set the scene for you: When we recorded this episode I was still very much pregnant, Drew was wearing nothing but his underwear and a pair of socks, and one of our pups was sleeping on the dining room table. Keeping it real with you all.

Our last Ask Us Anything episode was one of your favorites, so here we are again, ready to answer your questions about pretty much anything. When I asked for your questions in the Goal Digger Insiders Facebook Group and the Goal Digger Podcast Instagram account, I have to admit, I was pretty surprised at what you wanted to know and how personal you wanted us to get. If you’re wondering how we balance this crazy entrepreneurial journey, keep each other smiling on the toughest days, how we knew each other were the one, or how many kids we want, this episode has the answers and so much more about US.

I’m a Type 3: The Achiever. If you’ve taken this personality assessment my team cannot live without, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

What is it? The enneagram! The enneagram assesses you as one of 9 types. Each of these types have a unique set of personality traits, strengths, and weaknesses and it is INSANELY accurate. My sister made my entire family take it last January, and the takeaways *actually* stuck with me throughout the year.

I’m sharing how the enneagram has set me up for success in business, exposed weaknesses, how Drew and I have used it to grow in our marriage, how it clarified a lot of dynamics in our family, and ultimately how you can find out your enneagram assessment and use it to transform your life.

Take the assessment at jennakutcherblog.com/enneagram.

Authenticity is more than posting the unedited, unfiltered photos on our feed. Today’s guest is a self-proclaimed authenticity advocate who believes sharing her truth, even the talking about the tough stuff out loud, can help other women feel like they aren’t alone. Sarah Herron was the first contestant on ABC’s The Bachelor with a physical disability, and although it didn’t end in her winning the final rose, she turned the sometimes tumultuous Bachelor experience into a new positive life purpose.

Sarah was born with Amniotic Band Syndrome, but it hasn’t stopped her from climbing mountains, skiing double black diamonds and even searching for love on television. This chat gets real and raw about her time on the show and how it was a catalyst for starting her nonprofit. This girl is THE example of finding positivity and purpose in challenging times.

Is managing The Goal Digger Podcast really a fulltime job? YUP. And this is the girl who does it...

I want to be super honest with you. My success changed my world.

Most women say they are equally afraid of success as they are afraid of failing… That says a lot. I want to preface the whole thing to say that I am so, so grateful for every ounce of success that has come my way, but my life has changed so much since I left the corporate world and started my own business back in 2012.

You ask about this a lot and I think it’s worth devoting an episode that’s real and vulnerable about my personal experience of growing a large brand, building a multimillion dollar company, and how it’s changed things for me, specifically how it’s affected my relationships.

I hope you’ll sprinkle some grace over everything I’m about to say, and know that I’m showing up to tackle something that I’ve been personally struggling with in hopes that it will help you to understand what success can REALLY look like behind the scenes.

So you want to start a business but your husband isn’t on board.

It can be difficult to be a woman striving for more in her career: It goes against traditional gender roles, people can question your priorities, and it’s easy to feel like a workaholic compared to your peers… Not having that support, or even having resistance from your closest family and friends, presents a whole new hurdle to clear. So how do you do it? How do you navigate your relationships and get your husband, partner, BFF, or family on board with your big idea?

I’m breaking it down as a married woman, but no matter what stage of life you’re in, this episode will help you face the resistance when the people you love don’t really understand or fully get “it.”

It’s time to talk about mental health and normalize therapy. Today’s guest, Elyse Snipes, is a marriage and family therapist skilled at bringing practical solutions to everyday problems with a little creative magic and a whole lot of truth. She works with her patients to unlock their limiting beliefs and build a healthier narrative that makes room for healing, connection, and personal freedom… And she does it all from her restored 1953 vintage trailer parked on the beach.

I invited Elyse on the show because as entrepreneurs, we’re welcoming a bonus layer of expectation, stress, anxiety, and decision-making into our lives, and in order to be successful in our businesses, and our personal lives, we need tools to manage these often challenging hurdles. I love Elyse’s mission to normalize therapy, and do it a little different than I’ve ever seen before. If you have questions about therapy, or if you think you might benefit from working with a therapist but you don’t even know where to begin, Elyse will walk you through it in this episode.

Fact or fiction: Having tons of followers is the only way to get more partnership possibilities, more business opportunities, and by extension, more money.

That’s totally FICTION. In the social media world of buying followers and the dreaded follow-unfollow game, the quality of your engagement with your audience is way more valuable than getting that ‘K’ next to your follower count. Micro-influencers are crushing the game and building dedicated, engaged followings that brands are leaning into and wanting to target.

Puno is a digital entrepreneur and web designer. She founded @ilovecreatives, a platform for creatives to connect and she co-created PeopleMap.co, an Instagram marketing tool where you can strategically find, grow, and track your community. She’s also a YouTuber and takes the most epic photos with her cat.

If you’ve ever wondered if micro-influencer partnerships are the right choice to market your business, or if YOU are a micro-influencer and you want to attract more partnerships and opportunities, this episode is rich with the details you need.

Loner. Hermit. Recluse. Antisocial.

If you search introvert in a thesaurus you’ll find some of these words. Hermit wasn’t in there, but my mom called me that once, so there’s that. But look mom! Introverts can make friends and build big businesses, too!

Whether you’re an introvert or an extrovert, being an entrepreneur can teach you a LOT about yourself, your leadership style, and help you to hone in on your skills… But entrepreneurship also has a tendency to point out the areas where you don’t quite shine.

Is it better to be introverted and extroverted as an entrepreneur? Today I’m going to teach you how to maximize whichever one you are to rock your business! I’ll also break down how I feel like my journey in entrepreneurship has changed me and taken me from being an extremely extroverted girl to someone who is definitely and entirely introverted.
