It doesn’t matter what kind of business you’re operating, it doesn’t matter if you’re a solopreneur or have a team of 20, it doesn’t matter what kind of social media presence you have… The true power to harness your audience lies in email lists. Your email list offers you these opportunities for sweet and direct conversations with the people who are most interested in your brand and what you have to offer. And I don’t care if you have 100 subscribers or 10,000, those people opted into YOUR list for a reason, and they’re who you want to nurture and serve and pay attention to the MOST earnestly.

We’re going to talk about the one of the most integral parts of email marketing, which is getting your emails read! I am going to equip you with the tools to make sure every time someone hears that “you’ve got mail” voice in their head and sees an email from ya land in their inbox, they are stoked to open it up and read it.

It’s been over a year since the man of my dreams, my baby daddy, my husband Drew Kutcher stepped up to the mic for an episode of The Goal Digger Podcast. Time is flying! I invited him back on the show for a deep dive discussion about navigating business as it intertwines with our marriage. After almost a decade of being Mr. and Mrs. we’ve navigated through many different seasons of professional and personal life together, so we are going back in time to the earliest days of entrepreneurship to reflect on what we’ve learned.

This episode is for you if you’re curious about how to talk to your partner about your big business dreams, or if you’re considering going into business with your significant other. Drew reveals how he actually felt when I told him I was leaving my stable corporate job, his advice for starting a business that’s separate from your relationship, and what it’s like to be a partner to a dreamer.

No matter what kind of business you have, or want to have, one of the best strategies to figure out what your customers want from you is to ask. There’s an art to this process, and an artist I love to watch in action is Bethany McDaniel.

Now you may have heard Bethany’s name on the podcast before if you’ve been around here for a while. She was a guest back on New Year’s Day 2018. And her business has expanded like crazy since then -- Thanks to her continual focus on listening to what her customers want. In the 2020 environment where people are shopping for needs over wants, I’m so excited to hear from Bethany about how the feedback loop is different, and how she’s still showing up in ways both new and devoted customers want.

Why aren’t email lists talked about like they’re the sexiest marketing strategy ever? Let me tell ya, email lists *are* sexy. My list drives insane profits for my business and without it, I wouldn’t be reaching and impacting the people I’m lucky enough to speak to via their inboxes each week.

In this episode of the Goal Digger Podcast, Kylie is asking me alllll about email lists in a new way. We’ll dig into why your newsletter form is failing you, how to start from zero subscribers, what do you do if you have a dormant list, and the email marketing strategies that actually worked in 2020… Because we all know this year looked way different than any year that came before it.

How often do you go back to your roots, where it all started? I did this the other day with the Goal Digger Podcast, rewinding all the way back to episode number two and my first ever guest on the show, Jen Olmstead. I wanted to invite her back on the podcast for another go-around, because so much has changed since that episode on November 18, 2016.

Jen Olmstead knows websites, and she’s one half of the Tonic Site Shop duo that has been helping Jenna Kutcher websites look fab since my very first site design. Jen knows how to present your brand in a way that stands out from the masses and attracts your ideal customers, even without a fully custom web design. We’re talking about what she knows best -- website design. She shares why “looking the part” doesn’t have to mean a totally custom design, the crucial components of any business site, and the key clues that your site might be ready for a little refresh.

Psst… Looking for the discount code mentioned in the episode? Visit Tonic Site Shop and use code: JENNASENTME for 15% off your order!

This episode is not meant to give you all the answers. It’s not meant to sort life out after the tornado that swept through in the form of 2020. It is, however, going to give you some ideas to take the next two months and some changes to find balance and peace again and to focus on what you CAN control, if you feel you’ve lost control of this year.

So whether you’re ready for a reset but don’t want to wait for New Years Day, or you just want to focus on one small habit that might lift you up out of the shadows as we wrap up the year… I hope these 10 ideas for ways to end 2020 seeing the silver linings, like my mom taught me to. I hope they fill you up and remind you that, no matter what’s happening around you, you still carry the power to choose how you respond and how you carry yourself forward and out of the depths of hard times. I fully believe in you and know you can end this year better than it started… Here are some ideas on how.

How old were you when you learned that your menstrual cycle had phases? And those phases, when tracked and studied on a personal level, can unlock some pretty mind blowing productivity and wellness changes? Were you *today* years old? Yeah, I spent most of my menstruating life not knowing anything in-depth about my cycle.

We’ve had a period coach educator on the show before and it’s clear — you’re a big fan of learning about your body and understanding your cycle in a way to help you do more and do better in business. If you are someone who menstruates, Berrion Berry is about to become your new BFF. She’s the creator of the The Flo Academy, educating people on holistic menstrual health. She helps her clients understand and harness the power of their cycle to increase energy, enhance their mood, and alleviate PMS naturally. If THAT sounds like something you could get on board with, then it’s time for you to meet Berrion Berry.

That big goal or dream you have? It’s actually the very thing that holds us back more often than not! Let’s focus more on the small, daily steps and actions to get you there because that is what will change your life. The only way to actually achieve your goals is to build systems that propel you toward them every single day.

In this episode, we’ll talk about how to build these systems so that you can achieve ANY lofty goal you might have on your heart, whether it’s for work, your family, your finances, or something personal. And more than that, we’ll talk about how to create habits that reinforce your system, so achieving a goal isn’t just a one-time thing, but a life-changing thing that sticks around and makes you better long-term, not just on the day you get to check off your goal.

Episode 400. FOUR HUNDRED. How is that number possible? The Goal Digger Podcast launched as a labor of love mixed with lots of hard work, topped off with the magic and kindness of each and every guest who volunteered their time to be part of my big podcasting dream.

I’m going back to episode one because I think it’ll be not only fun to look back on how this whole show started, but I’m also excited to share how my view of some of the biggest topics I teach on have shifted since I launched as a 28-year old entrepreneur, a few years into her online business, with bright eyes on the future. My views and teachings on topics like legacy, social media, privacy, authenticity and more have evolved in the last four years, and I want to share that all with you in this episode. So, ready to hop in a time machine to November 18, 2016?

Does it get any better than talking social media, email list building, AND a little strategy?! This is basically like Christmas morning for me! In this episode, we’re delving into how they all go hand in hand and how to strategically use your social platforms to grow that email list.

But first things first, why does this even matter? Why *should* we use social media to grow the list? After all, isn’t social media its own separate beast meant for engaging and beating the algorithm and connecting with your ideal audience and booking your dream customers and clients? Well, yes, but it’s also completely owned and controlled by other people. It’s not your domain, you don’t own your followers, it’s not your platform, so ultimately, you’re left with almost zero control. Hit play for my social media secrets that will help you grow your email list.

When Bella Lam made the switch to eating vegan and gluten-free, she was instantly faced with the major lack of offerings in the market for her dietary needs. A chocolate chip cookie that fit her needs was like a unicorn. So Bella thought, why not me? Why can’t I create something that’s clearly missing from the market? That’s the short version of the Coconut Whisk origin story, but I’ll let Bella tell you the whole thing.

Bella created Coconut Whisk, building the company alongside her personal brand. She was a student and a CEO, all at once, which came with its own set of learning curves and challenges, but she’s on the podcast to share her story of filling a need in the market, building a strong personal brand, and her advice for building community and connection with your customers.

When everything on the outside feels OUT of control, I do my best to return to this: What can I control? What do I have power over? What can I ACTUALLY change? What habits, routines, or thoughts can I shift so that I don’t stay feeling stuck?

So while financials are a big, top-of-mind topic these days, let’s talk about financial habits that successful women possess. Because even though things may feel shaky and unpredictable in the economic climate, you DO have control over how you show up in your life and in this world. You have power over your approach to money, how you handle it, and your belief systems around it.

I actually emailed her way back in 2011, when I was just starting my photography business. She graciously answered every question I sent as a complete stranger, thousands of miles away. Over the last decade we’ve been quiet cheerleaders for one another, but I will never, ever forget the way she showed up for me when I dropped into her inbox, a mere admirer of her photography.

She’s a mother of five children, an author, a speaker, a retired photographer, and so much more. I want to get deep with Anjuli today, because she is so skilled at helping people unpack their vulnerabilities and understand the deeper places in their hearts. In this conversation we’ll chat about book writing and self-car and honoring her own time and space as a mother. I can’t wait for you to meet this woman.

Some business experts actually believe that the number 1 mistake new business owners make is NOT niching down enough, and therefore speaking to a massive, unspecific crowd rather than a highly fixed group of people who would BEST benefit from their product or service.

But I get it! When you’re starting out especially, you want to get as many clients or customers as possible. It feels scary to try and focus on a smaller group of people! Why would you want to exclude anyone? After all, customers equal profits which equals business health, right? Well, not exactly.

We’re going to explore this notion of digging into a niche and I believe this can set you apart and move you forward more than SO many other top business practices. If you’re not sure if you need to drive down into a niche, or aren’t certain how to find the right niche, or just want to inspect your biz a bit to be sure your niche is the right target for YOUR goals and trajectory, this is your episode.

Who here started a lemonade stand as their first endeavor into the business world? I did. My brother and I dragged a cooler of Kool-aid down to the end of our driveway and I’m pretty sure my mom called the neighbors to drive by so we’d get a few customers. My lemonade business started and ended there… But when this guest started her lemonade stand, it transformed into something much, much bigger.

Mikaila Ulmer is the youngest guest we’ve ever featured on the Goal Digger Podcast. She started her lemonade company at 4-years old. Now she’s the 15-year old CEO of Me & the Bees Lemonade and her special recipe lemonade is sold across the country. If you’ve got kiddos with the entrepreneurial bug, you’ll want them to tune into this episode… But let me tell you, Mikaila’s drive, her business acumen, and her mission to do good while running a profitable company is something we can all learn from, no matter what age.

These three students decided to take their own plunge by investing in themselves and enrolling in Amy Porterfield’s Digital Course Academy. This program is the gold standard for anyone who wants to create, launch, and scale an online course… And that’s exactly what Danielle, Chrissy, and Nicole have done over the last year. But investing in the program wasn’t a decision that came lightly. Their fear and reservations could’ve prevented them from diving into the water -- could’ve held them back from all of the success they’ve seen since making the understandably fear-filled decision to invest. Is that you? Are you standing on the edge thinking, sure, creating an online course sounds great, but should I, could I really dive in?

That’s actually why Danielle, Chrissy, and Nicole are on the Goal Digger Podcast. They know better than anyone what it’s like to be where you’re standing, debating if this is the right jump. You’ll hear their before, during, and after stories of Digital Course Academy, as well as the reservations they had and how those went out the window as they started the course. I am so thrilled to have them here so you can picture yourself in their successes.

If we were to play word association for 2020, I’d bet the very last word that comes to mind is “certainty”. Many of us are watching our peers navigate big changes as we ourselves pivot and adapt. Whether it’s personally or professionally, we’re making decisions that we could’ve never predicted would be on our plates at the start of this year.

Pivoting is the theme of this conversation with my friend Amy Porterfield. She was one of the voices I was listening to when I pivoted into the online course world, and I’m so excited to have her on the show once again to talk about the meaningful and even profitable pivots she’s seen during this season. If you walk away from this episode with only one thing, let it be your permission to pivot. These stories will paint what’s possible.

My very first dive into the deep end of the online course world was the result of a friend’s comment on a social media post. She was signed up for this “discovery” call with a business consultant and told me I should hop on, too. By the end of that call I was pitched a course and I made the investment, and those two choices were the start of my career as course creator.

Kylie is back on the show to ask me all the questions about online courses, what my very first course looked like, what I did to change my strategies from launch one to launch two, and I even challenge her on her own course creation objections… Plus, you have to hear about the email I sent to Amy Porterfield in 2016, back when I was a student, like you, looking for the next step in my business.

You know you’ve got something to teach. But could you really put it into a course? I’m willing to bet the answer is YES. If you can coach one on one, if you can lead a group of people to see results, even if you’re teaching in an informal or unofficial capacity, then you’re equipped to dive into your first course.

Vanessa Hicks is an incredibly talented wedding photographer, she leads a 12-week mastermind group, and now she’s looking at her business in a pandemic world thinking about what’s next. A course is on her mind, and I know she has some questions about adding that to her education offerings. Is it the right next step? How should she approach the daunting task of putting her knowledge into a course? And where will she find her students? Those questions and more, coming up in this coaching session with my friend, Vanessa Hicks.

A funny thing happened when I was growing and gaining some success as an entrepreneur… people began coming to me and asking me how. How did I regularly get clients? How did I curate a social media presence that brought in awesome leads? How did I market myself to actually create consistent income in this unpredictable, heavy service industry? So much of what I was learning about entrepreneurship and marketing wasn’t from my college degree or someone teaching me — it was from DOING it.

What I’m completely certain of is that YOU have something like this inside of you, a certain life experience or even an obsession you’ve been pouring over for months or years, that uniquely qualifies YOU as an expert in that area. That’s what this episode is about — how to uncover that gift and turn it into something teachable for others! Because we all have these experiences and knowledge unique to our own walks of life that we can tap into and package into something we can share with others. You don’t have to be a trained “educator” to do it — you just need to be willing to do a little digging!

Educator, advocate, activist, storyteller, consultant, philanthropist, dog mom… Just a few titles that my friend Jess Weiner can hang her hat on. What Jess does is so important -- She advises and leads massive brands on how to better reflect people and their diverse experiences within their media, marketing, advertising, and workforce.

She is a brilliant branding mind with a special super power of connecting companies with their communities. Jess is also expanding her work to connect with her own community and help people define what a “good life” means to them. Where passion and profit intersect… THAT is where you want to build your business. Most entrepreneurs get into doing their own thing for a few main reasons: to pursue independence, impact, or their passions. Often, it’s some combination of all 3 but along the way, it can be easy to lose sight of that initial intention.

That, my friend, is what we want to avoid. This episode is all about digging into those personal WHYs — the core values that motivate you and what you’re deeply interested in pursuing — and how to spin those things into a business model that grows with you, that doesn’t hold you down or stifle you. These are the 3 steps you need to take in order to build a business that sustains and supports your heart, desires, goals, passions and life trajectory.
